This is author Jackson Fahnestock's first novel. It is a story about a 17-year-old boy who is forced from his home in China and must migrate to San Francisco's Chinatown. He is coerced into helping a corrupt tong leader who is bent on getting revenge on the tong's co-leader. But, he also finds support through a local newspaper and begins developing his reporting and photography skills. These skills come in handy as he struggles to deal with the tong and restore his sense of self-worth and his family's name.
